Adult Size: May get up to 10 feet long (3 meters).

Headshape: Often a noticeable hump between the eyes and the nostrils on mature adults.

Appearance: One of the first things you may notice is that their eyes seem to sit on top of their heads a little higher than most crocodiles due to their low cranial table. There are usually inclusions in the tail rows, similar to Melanosuchus niger. Normal tail rows are interrupted by partial rows of scales. Frequently, on the ventral side (belly) there is pigmentation from the cloaca towards the tip of the tail, but a white belly from the cloaca toward the head.

Nuchal Clusters: Pattern is 4 x 2, with two pairs of large post-occipitals.

Flanks: Sometimes, uneven scale rows on the flanks, showing some C. acutus gene expression.

Other Notes: This is a medium-sized crocodile from Central America (known from Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala).

STATUS: Conservation Dependent

*Compare to Crocodylus acutus. Known to hybridize with C. acutus.
